5 Bookshops and Books to Celebrate Hispanic Heritage Month

5 Bookshops and Books to Celebrate Hispanic Heritage Month

September 22, 2023

Today, we're super excited to share some awesome Latinx owned bookshops and book services as well as 5 wonderful books to celebrate Hispanic Heritage month.

The Lit. Bar

Plátanos are love

I love bookstores and I love wine so this is AMAZING! The Lit. Bar was brought to life by Noëlle Santos, an African American and Puerto Rican venture activist from the Bronx. You can support this business through bookshop.org. Plátanos are Love  by Alyssa Reynoso-Morris is a winner - a picture book about how plátanos are not just food but an important part of culture. You can also see the author read this book aloud on YouTube! This is a great book that incorporates a few Spanish words into the story and has a glossary so great for Spanish learners!

Chau, Luna

Areli es una dreamer

We first came across Chau, Luna at the International Book Fair in Guadalajara a few years back, and they have such a thoughtful collection of children's books! I love how they filter for early readers and chapter books. There are quite a few beautiful books that I'm eyeing... especially Areli es una dreamer written by Areli Morales, illustrated by Luisa Uribe, and transalted by Polo Orozco. It's written by a DACA recipient and just look at those illustrations!

Sol Book Box

Sol Book Box is a wonderful subscription service that lets you try new Spanish books each month or shop individually for some of their recommended favorites. We've been exposed to many wonderful books through Sol Book Box, but even better - they have a great post of books to celebrate Hispanic Heritage month!

Con Todo Press

Be Bold

Con Todo Press, brought to life by Naibe Reynoso, has many beautiful books to choose from and wonderful biographical stories about Latinx history makers. We've loved Be Bold! Be Brave! - ¡Sé audaz, sé valiente! and How to fold a taco is super cute and clever. Love that these books are truly bilingual so they're great for language learners!

La Librería

Hola Amigo

La Librería is an awesome bookstore that we learned about during the pandemic - they are based out of LA, but they do a great job with online orders! And I love how they organize their suggestions on their website! Hola Amigo by 123 Andrés is a super fun book featured at this bookshop. We love it because it's a book that you and your little can learn to sing-along to.

Hope you enjoy these, and would love to hear about your favorites too!
